President Trump released a $4.8 trillion budget proposal on Monday. The 138-page plan must be approved by Congress.
The administration pro-growth policies “Prepares [the country] for a Changing Labor Market,” states the White House. “While today’s great job market is leading employers to realize the vast potential of many individuals who were previously overlooked, the administration is committed to doing even more to support opportunities for all Americans to experience the dignity and independence work affords,” states the White House in the document. “Reflecting this priority, the budget creates additional pathways to the jobs of today and the jobs of tomorrow.”
The need to “prioritize” 5G is highlighted on the first page. Wireless Infrastructure Association President/CEO Jonathan Adelstein said the association is, “thrilled with the support in the budget for training through apprenticeships which can prepare the wireless workforce of tomorrow. We also appreciate the administration’s call for a ‘whole-of-Government approach’ and the need to refocus on the skills required for the jobs of the future, including 5G.”
“WIA supports the administration’s recognition that apprenticeship through the Department of Labor is a proven method for training in ‘high-growth areas,’” Adelstein said, “and we will support the president’s goal of developing the workforce to win the race to 5G.”
The White House requests $7.9 billion for the Department of Commerce for 2021. The FCC is under the DOC. The figure represents a $7.3 billion or 48.0-percent decrease from the 2020 enacted level, including changes in mandatory programs.
