WIA to Host Workforce Development Webinar

The Wireless Infrastructure Association plans to host a webinar on October 22 titled, “WIA: the Hub of Workforce Development.”

The association recently received a Department of Labor contract to develop 5G workers, and a $6 million grant to expand wireless training at community colleges. In a note to members, WIA President/CEO Jonathan Adelstein says the actions give the association an opportunity to support member companies and registered apprenticeship sponsors, “with the technical assistance and resources you need to recruit, retain and develop your workforce as you prepare to meet the demands of 5G.”

The extra funding comes at a pivotal time, according to Adelstein. “The pandemic has shone a spotlight on our industry as one that could put Americans back to work. Wireless infrastructure will continue to grow and has kept us all connected during this challenging time. This is significant for the industry because it currently faces a skills gap where demand for filling jobs is outpacing talent.”

“We hear from so many of you that the skills of yesterday no longer suffice for the wireless jobs of tomorrow – or even today – and that training is needed to hit top and bottom lines because workers with the right skills are hard to find,” he writes.

That’s why with the new funding, the WIA will launch, promote, and expand apprenticeship models that can benefit member companies. Click here to register for the webinar, which is slated for 1 – 2 p.m. EDT.
