Williston Park Board to Give Verizon Green Light on Rooftop Facility

The Village of Williston Park Board of Trustees took a big step toward giving Verizon official approval to install antennas and a backup power generator atop a commercial building. Now, the board is awaiting the draft of a written decision from the village attorney to make Verizon’s application approval official.

The board gave their approval to the facility after the wireless carrier effectively addressed concerns over the proposed facility, reports The Island Now.

Among the board’s concerns was whether or not additional insulation could be installed to reduce the facility’s noise, as well as how often the company would test the generator and during which time of day. The village hired its own noise expert to review Verizon’s application, and Mayor Paul Ehrbar said the review found nothing that contradicted Verizon’s application.

During the hearing earlier this week, Denise Vista, an attorney for Verizon, addressed any lingering concerns the board might have regarding the proposed facility. Vista told the board that the noise during construction of the facility would be well below village code, and that there would be enough space to install additional insulation once the facility was constructed.

Verizon further appeased the board by reducing the frequency and duration that it would test the wireless facility and generator. Originally, it had proposed once a week for an hour, but tweaked that number to once every two weeks for only 30 minutes per test.
