Verizon will site towers at two high schools and the Greater Albany Public Schools (New York) will begin collecting royalties from the carrier in January. The money will be used to pay off outstanding debts and for South Albany and West Albany high schools’ turf fields, the Albany School Board decided Monday, according to the Albany Democrat-Herald.

Board members voted 4-0 to pay a debt owed by the Rebel Athletic Foundation for completion of the field at South Albany High School. The district will transfer $171,725 from Facilities, Acquisition and Construction to the community services budget this year, to retire a $125,000 loan and make principal and interest payments on a second loan.

The district will cover the remaining $31,900 each year for both years, the Albany Democrat-Herald reported.
