DAS Not Good Enough

The Board of Selectman in Easton, Connecticut, has been examining alternative ways to resolve dead zones in the area other than constructing a new cell tower. However, after much research the board found that the only way to enhance cellular service in the area to build a 150-foot tower on land near the animal shelter 2,100 feet from Samuel Staples Elementary School. The board met with members of the Easton Advocates for Responsible Cellular Coverage and considered a distributed antenna system. The Easton Courier explained, “In the end, they learned that a distributed antenna system to solve the town’s gaps in wireless coverage is probably not feasible on its own. There has not been much success in planting DAS nodes in rural areas with houses spread out and set back far from the road. Cell towers cover those areas better.” Unfortunately, DAS must be connected to a macro site to work properly. Once the tower is constructed by Homeland Towers, the town will still be able to consider DAS, but the town will have to invest a lot of money into the system.
