Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced $22 million in broadband expansion awards as part of a second round of funding to expand coverage to the state’s underserved communities. The funds from the Broadband Opportunity Program will be used for eight projects across eight counties connecting more than 33,200 unserved residential, educational, business, and community locations.

Round two project areas will add nearly 3,500 miles of fiber optic cable to existing networks and include the cities, towns, and counties listed here.

The $144 million first round of funding was awarded in February, bringing the state’s total to $166 million for rural broadband expansion. The two rounds will impact 193,000 homes and businesses across 47 counties. The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity administers the Broadband Opportunity Program funds.
