In June 2013, Tommy fell 50-feet from a cell phone tower and suffered severe Diffuse Axonal Traumatic Brain injury leaving him with years, if not a lifetime of recovery. After 12 months in between intensive care and a rehab facility, Tommy was finally able to go home to his family where he could continue healing, according to the Facebook Page, Go Team Tommy. This campaign honors the fallen workers and brings awareness of the dangers these climbers face daily. A Homerville, Georgia, family was recently featured on the page after their loved one, Zach Roberts, died when he fell off a cell tower on July 8, 2013. Their family has been working to spread the word about the dangers of the job hoping to make it safer. “Deadlines,” said Michelle Roberts, Zach’s sister, when asked what she would most like to see changed. Her mother echoed that, saying, “deadlines, that’s the biggest thing, is the deadlines that these carriers are puttin’ on these climbers…and, I want ’em to take some responsibility, show some compassion or somethin’.” Visit Go Team Tommy and see the amazing progress Tommy’s made and learn more about the campaign.
