After the FCC announced there would be a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding wireless infrastructure at the October 17 meeting, PCIA President and CEO Jonathan Adelstein expressed the association’s excitement that the FCC continues to make wireless infrastructure deployments easier. “PCIA is thrilled that FCC leadership and staff continues its critical work to streamline the rules and regulations surrounding the much-need expansion and upgrading of America’s wireless infrastructure this fall. PCIA has long advocated for this streamlining, particularly on issues related to the collocation of communications infrastructure, quickened review processes, and modernizing policies to account for new technologies like distributed antenna systems and small cells,” Adelstein explained. “The U.S. has no bigger economic or technological priority than ensuring that our wireless broadband networks meet rising consumer demand and remain globally competitive. We’re confident that the FCC will adopt rules that mitigate regulatory red tape and facilitate the construction of a world-class wireless infrastructure. As Chairman Wheeler noted, ‘High-speed mobile broadband requires high-speed broadband buildout.’ PCIA couldn’t agree more and looks forward to a final order.”
