Holloman Air Force Base Teaches Tower Climbers

If you’re part of Airfield Management or the 49th CS Operations Flight within the United States Air Force then tower climber training is a must. Tech. Sgt. Tavaron Marshal of the 49th Communications Squadron Radio Frequency Transmission Systems notes that the program is open to anyone in the Air Force interested in climbing. The Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico holds the Tower Climbing Program, which airmen must be trained in as the Airfield Management is responsible for flight line communications and the 49th CS Operations Flight is responsible for microwave transmission systems, Land Mobile Radio, and tactical radio equipment. Even though this isn’t a typical tower job, safety is still a main concern. “Safety first,” said Daniel McKee, Holloman’s Installation Spectrum manager. “We show you the proper gear to use and the way to wear and operate with it on. Finally, we teach those that need to work with tools and equipment at heights hot to safely do it.” (Daily News)
