Barry McCall, owner, engineer and operator of KELB 100.5, a non-commercial Christian radio station in Lake Charles, LA, died from injuries suffered last week in a tower accident, according to KPLC-TV.  Police reports did not give details of the tragedy and it is not known whether McCall fell from the tower, or if the structure fell on him.

McCall was was an electrician by trade but was better know for his passion for his church and his radio station.  Although McCall owned the station, a friend told KPLC-TV “He would have told you, ‘this isn’t my radio station. this belongs to the Lord. And the Lord is responsible for keeping it going,’”

“When Low Power FM was established in 2000 my wife and I founded CCB to help churches, ministries, schools and community groups apply for, construct, and operate LPFM stations nationally,” said John Broomall of Christian Community Broadcasters. “Since 2006 Barry McCall and KELB, Eternal Life Broadcasting, have been a CCB client and friend,” Broomall said.  “Recently Barry learned that his tower site had been sold and he was in the process of moving his 27 meter monopole 100 feet when he was killed midday March 11.”

The funeral and visitation will be held this week at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lake Charles.
