Kathryn Bachman of Katy on the Hill recently noted that the 2016 incentive auction could fetch $49 million. Auction expert Peter Crampton conducted a study for the Expanding Opportunities for Broadcaster Coalition. “To make the case for the highest possible prices, Crampton did more than 180 reverse auction simulations using the FCC’s new interference criteria,” Bachman explained. “The study concluded that, with slightly higher prices for broadcasters, the reverse auction can clear 126 MHz of spectrum from broadcasters for $35 billion and could sell that spectrum in the forward auction to wireless bidders for $84 billion.” EOBC wants the auction to be held without delay, and when broadcaster’s petitioned the FCC’s plans for the auction, EOBC intervened. As of now, it looks like the auction will still be held in 2016.
