After two years of pandemic uncertainty and social distancing, the 7th Annual 2022 Wireless West Conference, presented by four West Coast wireless associations, came back full force in person this week. The show brought 600 executives and thought leaders in the wireless industry back together for discussions, networking opportunities, and educational sessions.

Held at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, the three-day conference kicked off on Tuesday, April 26, with a golf tournament at the legendary Torrey Pines Golf Course. The completely full shotgun tournament hosted 144 registered players for a day of golf and networking.

“I am so happy to see our industry getting back together. Wireless West is one of the best conferences in our industry to attend, in terms of both content and contacts,” said Ken Czosnowski, Executive Vice President for J5 Infrastructure Partners.

Day two of the conference kicked off with a warm welcome by eFactor’s President & Founder, Kari Willis, followed by the Opening Session “T-Mobile Talk” with Keynote Speakers, Darryl Hawkins, SVP for the West Region and Moderator Brandon Braunlich, Senior Director, to discuss the company’s current position in the 5G industry. Hawkins discussed his new executive role, and his industry background — with over 25 years in the wireless industry including his start at Verizon after getting out of the Marine Corps. He discussed Bell Atlantic’s merger with GTE to form Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint’s merger in April 2020, and the company’s Magenta Build focus.

“T-Mobile has the largest 5G network in the country and covers over 310 million pops,” said Hawkins. “We are currently available to 40 million households and growing every day. We are leveraging the power of 5G for home broadband internet with 77 percent of our new home customers, not even wireless customers. Our top priorities include ‘working together to win together,’ developing our 3-tier layer strategy, increasing 5G penetration, focusing on home internet, and giving access to homes that didn’t have access before. T-Mobile is over-indexing from a growth perspective, and we have unlimited ways to optimize the network and continue to grow.”
