Verizon says Indianapolis will be the fourth city it deploys 5G residential broadband services to in the second half of this year. Indy joins Houston, Los Angeles and Sacramento as an early adopter market. The carrier also plans to offer YouTube TV and Apple TV 4K as part of its broadband package in those cities. It anticipates releasing 5G-capable mobile devices into the markets in early 2019.
Verizon says the launch marks the next phase in its long-standing relationship with Indiana state and local officials and the local utility, Indianapolis Power & Light. In its announcement, Verizon refers to infrastructure investments it’s made to support 5G services in Indianapolis, such as Lucas Oil Stadium and the Super Bowl convention center. The carrier trialed 5G during the Indianapolis 500 last May.
