L.A. Broadcast Towers Feeling the Heat

Mount Wilson Antenna Farm 

Firefighters were battling a brush fire near Mount Wilson Tuesday morning that is threatening roughly a dozen Los Angeles radio and TV stations with antennas located on the summit, according to Inside Radio. The fire broke out just before 4 a.m. PT, and by 10 a.m. ET it had engulfed 26 acres and remained uncontained, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Northeast of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Mountains, Mount Wilson is a prominent antenna farm that houses 20 L.A. FM transmitters and all of its higher power Class B stations. Around 115 firefighters were battling the blaze, and helicopters were making water drops, Inside Radio reported.

The fire is burning just below the historic Mount Wilson Observatory.
