Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti presented at the 2015 Great California ShakeOut Breakfast Leadership Summit held in southern California last week. The purpose of this summit was to prepare the state for the next big earthquake. Garcettie explained that officials are working on implementing new cell towers that will ensure phones work throughout disaster and recovery.
“I think we could have them [towers] last the entire time, even in a big quake, if in the next two years we’re able to build out the plans that we have,” said Garcetti. “Still, you shouldn’t depend on it, you should have a plan” (KCBS-TV). The news outlet explained that it may be another two years before those towers are built so earthquake preparedness should still remain a priority.
