A new “tree” is being planted in the town of Laguna, CA, in the form of a 55-foot tall cell tower. The Elk Grove Planning Commission on November 19 unanimously approved construction of the concealed tower that will rest west of the Big Horn Boulevard-Meadowspring Drive intersection.

The self-monitoring tower, according to egcitizen.com, will have a “faux broadleaf tree appearance.” Upward extended receiving panels will give the tower a more “filled out, extra foliage” look. The tower site will be near the Sacramento Municipal Utility District substation and will be surrounded by a 7-foot tall, wrought iron security fence. A standby generator and ground equipment also will be on-site.

Commission Chair George Murphy told egcitizen.com that he felt that the project was “pretty straightforward,” and after seeing photo images of how the faux tree tower would look on the property, he said that they “looked pretty darn good.
