UPDATE A Wayne County Circuit Court judge ruled last Friday that T-Mobile will not be able to turn on a controversial 5G antenna atop Washington Elementary School in Wyandotte, MI, according to The Detroit News. Tower opponents had filed a lawsuit arguing that the tower’s RF emissions could produce adverse health effects.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Adel Harb granted a restraining order because he believed the plaintiffs were likely to succeed in the lawsuit and because they will suffer “irreparable harm and loss” if the district proceeds with the communications facility.

The lawsuit alleges T-Mobile “hornswoggled” the Wyandotte school district into issuing the district an illegal building permit and certificate of occupancy to build the wireless communications facility, according to The Detroit News. The plaintiff’s attorney called the city and school officials “chicken-hearted and lily-livered” for not enforcing the law.

Further, the complaint stated, “Unless enjoined by this Court, T-Mobile will begin transmitting noxious, dangerous wireless radiation from the antennas … continuously all day, every day at a site where young children study and play during their most important developmental years.”

The World Health Organization asserts that cell towers do not pose a health risk. -ed
