UPDATE After years of waiting for a new cell tower, residents in Mahwah, New Jersey are still waiting. As NorthJersey.com notes, the need for better connectivity in the region was first identified back in 2005. Numerous proposals and challenges have been launched in the intervening years. A 150-foot temporary cell tower currently occupies the Rozanski Lane site that will someday host a 183-foot permanent tower.
The site is finally ready, but the materials needed to complete the structure have not arrived yet. Supply line delays, paired with winter weather limitations, will result in further delays. “It will be another eight weeks before construction starts due to material availability,” confirmed Township Administrator Benjamin Kezmarsky.
As the source reports, over the years, the voices calling for better reception have grown louder than those complaining about the presence of a cell tower in town. “We understand how frustrating it is to continually be so close to the finish line and never quite make it,” commented tower supporter, Denise Tarantino, on the residents’ Mahwah Cell Tower Task Force Facebook page. “Just maybe 2023 will be the year we will finally have the chance to celebrate.”
Once it finally arrives, the new cell tower will be shared by AT&T and Verizon. Plans also call for room to add two more carriers at a future date NorthJersey.com reported.
