Malaysia is rolling out a new broadband and wireless infrastructure that will enable the nation to be fully digital with ubiquitous access to connectivity, according to Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Salleh Said Keruak. The Sun Daily reported that implementing the high-speed broadband will “future-proof” the country’s growing economy and help deliver economic benefits.

According to Salleh, the new infrastructure is planned to provide the availability of high-speed fixed broadband internet services at “twice the speed and half the price” nationwide, bridging the digital divide between the urban and rural dwellers in Malaysia. The Broadnet Network Sdn Bhd (Broadnet) had been appointed to build the infrastructure that will serve the country.

“The government is positive that a Public Private Partnership arrangement will be the best mechanism to materialize the government’s aspirations for the expansion of the Malaysian Digital Economy,” said Salleh.
