Mississippi Church Tries Not to Cause Problems with Cell Tower

Cell towers are a great way to increase revenue, especially for schools and churches that really need the extra funds. However, community protests often cause these places to lose out on revenue because they oppose the project. Reverend Robert Hatcher has been considering a proposal for a 160-foot tower with a 10-foot lightning rod to be placed on First Presbyterian Church of Hernando in Hernando, Mississippi. But, the reverend doesn’t want to upset residents in the community by committing to this project. “We’ve been in Hernando since 1850 and have been a part of bringing people together,” Hatcher told the board and a roomful of observers during Tuesday night’s meeting. “We don’t want to divide people. We trust the process. We finally got an agreement that we could all sign off on. We want to make sure that people understand that we’re not trying to get our way. We know that it will all work out for the best.” The Hernando Planning Commission will discuss the proposed tower again, but the contract calls for 40 years maximum with 5-year renewal increments, something that bothers a few of the Commission members.
