National League of Cities Launches Nationwide 911 Drone Deployment Services
The National League of Cities (NLC) announced the launch of the BRINC–NLC Drone as First Responder Program, the first national initiative of its kind designed to help cities, towns and villages across America deploy drones to 911 calls. The program is intended to improve emergency response times, enhance situational awareness and help keep communities safe.
Drone as First Responder programs use strategically placed drones in charging nests that can reach a scene within seconds of a call for service. In many cases, they arrive before first responders on the ground, providing live video, two-way communication and real-time information to dispatchers and responders. The NLC says this helps improve safety and allows agencies to use their resources more efficiently. As cities focus more on secure, U.S.-made technology, the BRINC–NLC partnership says it gives local leaders direct access to expert support, implementation guidance and proven best practices.
“Every day, local governments deliver for their residents by utilizing practical, proven tools that help first responders do their jobs safely and effectively,” said Clarence E. Anthony, CEO and Executive Director of the National League of Cities. “NLC’s partnership with BRINC ensures our members have access to trusted information and leading technology as they explore drones as first responder programs in their communities.”
