Residents of Snohomish, Washington, may soon see a new Verizon tower. Verizon wants to build a 100-foot tower next to the Snohomish Boys & Girls Club if they are granted the special permit they requested from the city last fall. “The proposed location is removed from the public right-of-way and therefore the visual impacts are somewhat reduced,” said City planning director Owen Dennison. (The Tribune) Some residents are concerned about the town, and hope that Verizon will consider another location if they voice their opposition. City Planning Commission Chair Rolf Rautenberg proposed that the town allow the residents to vote via ballot on whether or not the monopole is allowed. The city’s Hearing Examiner is a land use attorney hired to hear and decide conditional uses and other permit types which require a hearing. A hearing regarding Verizon’s proposal is schedule for August 10.
