The Westland City Council in Michigan approved a perpetual easement of city-owned land so a cell tower can be build. The city will receive a one-time payment of $700,000 in exchange for the easement. The parcel originally was leased to Nextel in 1994 and provided the city annual revenue of approximately $42,000, according to the Hometown Life. American Tower Asset Sub LLC will now have a perpetual lease on the property, and install a new tower for use by carriers. American Tower will collect the revenues from the tenant leases. “As the city gets grants and repurposes buildings, it helps the city move forward,” City Attorney James Fausone said. “Monetizing an asset for $700,000 is a big step.” No comments were made about the project, so the Council accepted the agreement.
