Nokia Networks is co-hosting the second annual Brooklyn 5G Summit with NYU Wireless that began on Wednesday and concludes today. The company demonstrated their newest technology that delivers peak speeds of 10 Gigabits per second over the air at 73GHz, which will allow users to download a full-length HD movie to your phone in a matter of seconds, and make it possible to stream “8K” video in 3-D, which is an incredibly detailed picture twice as clear as 4K video and 16 times clearer than full HD video. (CNN Money) “Special focus this year is on spectrum assets above 6GHz, progress in channel modeling at these higher frequencies, and massive MIMO systems for 5G. The use of new spectrum bands is one of the key ingredients in future 5G networks, enabling the delivery of ‘virtually zero’ latency to support such applications as tactile Internet, connected cars and augmented reality,” Nokia Networks explained. “The 10Gbps peak rate is one of several highlighted demonstrations to show progress on these topics.” While Nokia has made huge progress on 5G technology, it’s still unlikely that this technology won’t be deployed until 2020, but it’s the fasted cellular technology ever tested. Samsung performed a similar 5G test, reaching peak speeds of 7.5 Gbps, or about 75% that of Nokia’s 5G technology, CNN Money reported.
