North Carolina Broadband Infrastructure Office Director Jeff Sural has been hired by the U.S. Treasury Department to advise it on federal broadband policy, according to StateScoop. Sural was named the state’s first broadband director in 2015, and launched several broadband mapping and grant programs.

In his new position, Sural will help states receive broadband expansion money and give assistance with applications for infrastructure expansion. The Treasury, Sural told StateScoop, has received “tens of billions” of dollars for funding state and local broadband infrastructure, including a $10 billion fund created by the recent American Rescue Plan to support projects related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
