On Monday in Raleigh, NC, a fiber line was cut, which caused widespread outages of cellular service for nearly seven hours. Some problems for Time Warner Cable customers continued into Tuesday morning, WNCN-TV reported. Verizon customers started having problems about 3 p.m. Monday, but the TWC customers still saw outages even after Verizon’s service was back online. Time Warner Cable spokesman Scott Pryzwansky told the news outlet, “Our fiber was damaged that serves customers in the area as well as a Verizon cell tower.”

He explained that the fiber was cut by a third party, but didn’t say if it was during routine maintenance or an act of vandalism. “In conjunction with our engineers, our vendors were able to identify and resolve the issue,” Karen Schulz, a Verizon spokesperson, said (WNCN-TV). AT&T also explained that some of their wireless customers may have experienced problems due to the cut fiber, but there wasn’t a major outage.
