Damage to two of its four towers has temporarily taken Truth Broadcasting’s Conservative Talk/Sports 600 WSJS-AM in Winston-Salem, NC off the air. Vandals destroyed the two towers crippling the Christian broadcast station. However, as Radio Insights reports, the FCC just approved an application to allow it to piggyback on existing equipment and resume its broadcasts. Local authorities said the FBI was notified of the situation.

“Today has been one of the toughest days of my broadcasting life,” owner Stu Epperson shared on Facebook. “Someone has destroyed several of our towers. Criminal investigation is underway. FBI is involved since it’s a federal crime. Can’t share details…but please PRAY…for the person responsible to come to faith in Christ, for law enforcement and for our team as they rush to get us back on the air.”

The new arrangement will allow WSJS to triplex at the site of co-owned 1340 WPOL-AM and Blue Ridge Broadcasting’s 1500 WSMX-AM. The move would drop WSJS from its current directional 5 kW day and night using a four-tower array and transfer it to a non-directional 1.7 kW day and 110 watts night.

The North Carolina Association of Broadcasters issued the following message to its member stations: “NCAB has recently heard reports from several Association members of perpetrators intentionally damaging communications towers and stealing copper from broadcast facilities/tower sites.”

NCAB asks if anyone has information on this crime, please contact the Winston-Salem Police Department Crime Stoppers
