Seagrove, North Carolina, is known for many things, among the list is poor cell service, which is why the Board of Commissioners voted to build three towers in the area. Not everyone is thrilled with the 300-foot towers on the scenic highway, but the county commissioners noted that this is a matter of public safety. North Carolina Highway 705 is a state-designated scenic byway. While Moore County used to have an ordinance that now tower could go up within a mile of the scenic byway, this was removed and towers now have to be 500 feet from any road, according to WRAL-TV. “We feel that the safety issue of the people here is more important than the view they see,” Moore County Commissioner Otis Ritter said. Ritter said with all the Pottery Highway tourists and potential for accidents, being able to call 911 is critical.
