Sioux City Steeple Provides Great Cell Service

The steeple at Blessed Sacrament in Sioux City, Iowa, doubles as a cell tower for AT&T. The wireless company completed the project this summer, installing the equipment inside the steeple so it’s concealed completely. The tall height of the steeple made it a perfect location for a tower. “We had a contract with Long Lines for quite a few years (since 2008),” said Terry McElroy, director of operations at Blessed Sacrament. “They put equipment up there with a stealth design. No one knew it was up there. It was very concealed.” (The Catholic Globe) After Long Lines sold their cellular services to AT&T, the equipment needed to be updated.

Father Daniel Rupp, current pastor at Blessed Sacrament told The Catholic Globe, “This does not affect the function of the church at all. It is an income source and it doesn’t bother us one bit. There is no danger to anyone standing beneath it or in church.” It took about three weeks for AT&T to install the antennas inside the steeple. The construction is complete and the equipment is expected to be up and running soon.
