President Joe Biden renominated Gigi Sohn as an FCC Commissioner on Tuesday. She will need to go through the Senate confirmation process, including a hearing, again. If confirmed, Sohn would fill the open Democratic seat, bringing the agency to its full 3-2 complement of Commissioners.

In reaction, FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said: “I’m proud of the work the Commission has accomplished in the last two years. Closing the Homework Gap, broadband access and affordability, telehealth, mapping, and network security are top priorities and we’ve acted accordingly.”

Regarding Sohn personally, Rosenworcel added: “Gigi is a knowledgeable nominee with a long record of commitment to the issues before the FCC and I congratulate her on nomination as a Commissioner at the agency. I look forward to the day we have a full complement of five commissioners.”

In the new 188th session of Congress, Senate Democrats now have a 51-49 majority. That will make it easier for Sohn’s nomination to pass the upper body, according to The Wall Street Journal.
