Solar Powered Tower Keeps Towns Online

It’s no secret that the country is experiencing extremely frigid temperatures, and when the snow piles up, communication tends to get cut off. However, a number of Vermont towns won’t have that problem this winter as the Vermont Cellular Resiliency Project has installed solar-powered cellular and wireless equipment. This equipment will allow parts of Vermont to communicate during state of emergencies. In 2011, the town of Norton was cut off when flooding occurred, but solar panels and battery systems on a cell tower allowed people to make emergency calls.
