Strong Start to CCA

The Competitive Carriers Association’s 2015 Annual Convention kicked off in Fort Lauderdale, FL, on Wednesday with comments from FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn. The Commissioner thanked CCA and its members for their leadership role in ensuring the upcoming spectrum incentive auction will spur competition and participation from smaller carriers. Following Clyburn’s speech, Sue Marek of FierceMarkets moderated the “Leading Women in Wireless” panel. Members included : Jessica Almond, Acting Legal Advisor, Engineering and Technology, Wireless, and Incentive Auction, FCC; Paige Atkins, Associate Administrator, Office of Spectrum Management, NTIA; Mary Clark, CMO, Syniverse; Kathleen Ham, SVP, Government Affairs, T-Mobile US; Tina Pidgeon, General Counsel, CCO & SVP, Governmental Affairs, GCI; and Rebecca Murphy Thompson, General Counsel, CCA.

The group discussed the opportunities for women in the wireless industry, and the advancements women have made in regulatory, technology and carrier organizations. “This year’s convention kicked off with some of the most dynamic women in our industry – from Commissioner Clyburn to our Women in Wireless panelists – who are driving change and innovation,” said Steven K. Berry, president and CEO of CCA. “These discussions, along with our technical panel on mobile network virtualization, are emblematic of the type of innovation and opportunity coming out of the competitive mobile ecosystem, and a fitting start to our program as we delve into the issues that will shape the industry over the coming year.”
