T-Mobile recently announced that they joined the Competitive Carrier’s Association Data Services Hub to help extend its relationships with carriers across the country. The wireless carrier hopes to form strategic partnerships that will allow them to expand their network in other regions. Jonathan Schildkraut of Evercore ISI believes this move could help T-Mobile.  “By joining the Data Services Hub TMUS will improve its coverage with roaming services in rural markets,” the analyst wrote. “One of TMUS’s shortcomings as a network, according to Root Metrics, is its rural coverage, so we believe this move could help TMUS improve.” Schildkraut noted that this move comes almost a year after Sprint struck a similar deal with the CCA to improve its rural coverage.

The Hub, powered by Transaction Network Services, Inc. (TNS), provides a technical and business framework for simplifying LTE and other next generation data connectivity and roaming needs among participating operators.  The Hub also enables competitive carriers to work cooperatively to expand and improve consumer access throughout the country.  “For smaller carriers, the Hub provides a platform to streamline roaming technology to help expand their networks to better compete with the largest two carriers.  With T-Mobile’s involvement, participating wireless providers will be better able to offer faster and more abundant services to their subscribers,” the CCA explained.
