Christopher Chase Hawkins, 34, of Caraway, AR died late afternoon on Thursday in Brookhaven, MS after falling from the top of a 280-foot radio tower, according to the Daily Leader. Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris, pronounced Hawkins dead at the scene at about 5 p.m. McMorris said Hawkins appears to have slipped from the top of the tower as he and another worker were changing out lightning rods on the structure located at the end of Clarkwood Trail in Brookhaven.
“They were here doing maintenance on it. He apparently unhooked for some reason and lost his balance,” McMorris said.
The Brookhaven Police Department is assisting OSHA with the investigation the Daily Leader reported.
Note: The Hubble Foundation has announced they will be collecting donations for the family.
