Town officials of Stonington, Maine, are building a new tower to provide better coverage to the downtown area. Town officials are working to bring carriers to co-locate on the new tower and even posted a short survey to their Facebook page asking, “If your current service provider does not expand service into downtown, would you consider switching to a carrier that has expanded service to downtown Stonington?” AT&T has already expressed interest in adding equipment to the tower, and U.S. Cellular is considering co-locating. Verizon said it’s unlikely that they would, but the town is hoping their customers might convince them otherwise. “It would be good for people to start calling up their sales people and put a little pressure on them,” Billings-Pezaris said Monday at the regular selectmen’s meeting. People are going to have to push for it.” (Island Ad-Vantages) So far, there’s no timeline of when the tower will be up and ready for equipment.
