Vantage Data Centers, a DigitalBridge Group (NYSE: DBRG) portfolio company and a global provider of hyperscale data center campuses, will build the second of three facilities on its flagship 55-megawatt (MW) EU campus (dubbed, FRA1) located in Offenbach, Germany, near major data centers and peering points in Frankfurt. This facility will have 16 MW of critical IT capacity and 140,000 square feet once fully developed and is expected to be operational in the first half of 2024.

In addition, Vantage has acquired full ownership of the first data center on this campus, buying out its joint venture partners Energieversorgung Offenbach (EVO) and DataCenter-Group. Vantage will continue in a new partnership with EVO as the energy provider and landowner of the campus. Vantage and EVO together will repurpose the waste heat from the new data center and make it available to the local community for heating purposes.

In December, the company announced the development of additional campuses in two of its existing strategic Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) markets. With increasing customer demand for premium hyperscale data center space across Europe, Vantage broke ground on second campuses in both Frankfurt and Berlin along with its first campus in Zurich, Switzerland.

In the highly valued Frankfurt data center market, Vantage is constructing a second five-acre campus, in Raunheim, to provide 40 MW and over 355,000 square feet capacity once complete. The initial phase of this five-story facility is scheduled for delivery in the fall of 2022.

Along with the Offenbach campus, located about 20 miles from Raunheim, both campuses will offer hyperscalers, cloud providers and large enterprise customers a total of 95 MW of capacity in the Frankfurt region once fully developed.

Vantage has also begun construction of a second campus in Berlin, as development continues on its first Berlin campus about 18 miles away. The two-building second campus will sit on 12 acres. Both two-story facilities are designed for combined capacity of more than 64 MW and 260,000 square feet. The initial phase with 32 MW capacity is scheduled to be operational in the summer of 2022.

Vantage recently opened the first of four data centers on its growing Swiss campus in Winterthur, 15 miles northeast of Zurich. Once fully developed, the seven-acre campus will offer 40 MW of IT capacity to customers.

All Vantage’s data center developments prioritize reliability, sustainability and environmental responsibility. The company’s standardized building design facilitates a rapid time-to-market response to customer demand. The campuses will employ hyper-efficient cooling with outside air economization using minimal water. This approach enables Vantage to achieve high power usage effectiveness and a near zero water usage efficiency. Both new campuses will offer customers renewable energy options along with electric vehicle charging stations, drought-resistant landscaping and motion-sensor LED lighting. Vantage has adopted a comprehensive sustainability program to reach net zero carbon by 2030.

“Our new developments in Frankfurt and Berlin are testaments to our significant growth throughout EMEA in less than 24 months in the market,” said Antoine Boniface, president, Vantage EMEA. “Our portfolio now consists of nine campuses throughout EMEA, including our recently announced development in South Africa. Demand from our customers continues to increase in these major economic centers, and our ability to scale quickly ensures our sustainable, state-of-the-art facilities will be ready to meet our customers’ business needs.”
