Verizon (NYSE: VZ) announced that its Public Sector group is among multiple awardees selected for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) contract for wireless services: Navy Spiral 4. This is an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract worth up to $2.67 billion over 10 years if the Navy exercises all contract options.

Navy Spiral 4 is a firm-fixed, ceiling-price contract to provide commercial wireless mobility services, supported by all wireless technologies and related operations, including software, hardware, firmware, and equipment. This requirement will cover usage in all 50 United States, U.S. territories, and while traveling internationally for military members and civilians working for the federal government. For its part, Verizon will deliver services including voice, data, IoT and mobility management.

With Navy Spiral 4, military personnel and federal civilian agencies will receive cost-effective solutions while meeting the government’s requirements for current and future wireless mobility services. Spiral 4 incorporates the latest wireless industry standards, advances in technology and more competitive pricing plans, replacing the previous iteration.

In addition to the Navy, Spiral 4 will include wireless services that meet broader DoD needs. The Office of the Secretary of Defense’s previous mandate for the DoD to use Spiral 3 will carry over to the new contract. The established Spiral 3 contract is part of a series of multi-award contracts, in this case involving the Big 3 mobile network operators, aimed at ensuring the Navy and other DoD agencies have access to the latest wireless communication technologies and services.

“Verizon’s inclusion in Spiral 4 represents our understanding of the [Navy’s] sophisticated demands for mission critical communications, developed through our history of digital modernization partnership with federal agencies including on Spiral 3,” said David Rouse, head of Verizon’s defense portfolio. “We are proud to continue serving military agencies under this new contract and build on our relationship with the DoD.”
