Verizon Prioritizes Network Traffic Levels

Verizon is introducing new customizations for its business and government customers.  The ability to prioritize and manage LTE wireless traffic for critical applications and calls is a brand new feature they are hoping will appeal to users and provide better service levels for network traffic.

Verizon happens to be the first wireless carrier to provide this type of service, called Private Network Traffic Management by Verizon, in the United States.  Besides giving users the option to prioritize their communications between low priority and mission critical classes, first responders will have their very own class to ensure that they reach destinations quickly.

The service works only on the LTE network.  It automatically differentiates communications by priority level, and separates mission critical and emergency communications from the  traffic by public consumers.  A surprising new addition provided by the service is that data on the private network will no longer need virtual private network protocols.

Carlos Benavides, associate director of product management at Verizon, expounded on how the network will best be used.  He says, “Private network management is most needed in congested situations.  Customers will have a portion of LTE available for mission critical apps and the rest of their apps can be sent over the available LTE speed” (Computer World).

Benavides further explained this new service was much sought after and requested by Verizon customers in the past.  They will be pleased at Verizon’s efforts, and will benefit from their new ability to prioritize communication within their network.
