Verizon’s application for a 126-foot monopine at 120 Brackett Road in Rye was approved by the town’s zoning board at a meeting Monday night, according to seacoastonline.

A balloon test is set for May 5, while the Board set escrow for the application at $10,000. According to Verizon representatives, the property was chosen for its lack of existing development, and natural buffer of trees surrounding the proposed monopine.  Locals disagree, saying their surrounding foliage only reaches 70 feet tall and would leave half of the tower exposed, seacoastonline reported.

Verizon has been looking for a spot to serve Rye for more than a decade, citing the town’s poor cell service. The tower would feature two equipment cabinets, a backup propane generator, an overhead metal deck rain canopy, a 500-gallon propane tank, and utility runs to a pole on Brackett Road.
