The broadband bootcamp will begin on June 24. An earlier session was presented last December and another is scheduled for later this summer. Those interested in attending can call 800-434-JOBS, ext. 4206.

A $1.73 million grant that is part of the federal Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs program will pay for the course costs. Upon course completion, the students can earn various certifications, such as fiber optic technician, fiber optics specialist in testing and maintenance, and fiber optics splicing specialist.

Classes will be taught by Tom Rauch, a certified Fiber Optics Association master instructor. BDI DataLynk, a standards-based company offering Fiber Optic Association-sanctioned fiber optics network technician training is sponsoring the training.

The news release announcing the broadband training noted that wrap-around supportive services such as travel assistance, uniforms, and required tools of the trade would also be made available. CareerSource CLM administers this program, as well as two other workforce development programs for Floridians.
