As the third annual 2022 Tower Rodeo approaches, event founder Kathy Gill told Inside Towers she is, once again, looking forward to hosting the event where two-man teams will be showing the industry their skills for rigging, rescue, and climbing. The Rodeo is being held December 2-3 in Phoenix at Gill’s Tower Safety training facility.

“These are the best of the wireless industry competing for the title of ‘#1 rescue team’, ‘Safest/Fastest Climber in Wireless,’ and ‘Best Technical Rigger Team in Wireless,’” Gill said. “It’s all about skills and knowledge while staying within the ANSI/OSHA/ASME standards and regulations…with some athleticism thrown in.”

The Rodeo has attracted some new challengers this year, according to Gill, some from the cell tower industry and others from emergency rescue teams across the country. The concept from the first Rodeo was to not only pit different skill techniques in tower climbing but also learn something new in the process.

“We have also had a large interest in construction owners to attend and watch the challengers to get a better read on what is happening with gear, techniques, and meet mutual owners and introduce themselves to climbers,” Gill said.

Last year, the event attracted over 200 attendees with more expected this year due to a waning of COVID concerns along with the growing popularity of the multi-faceted contest and exhibition.

“Who doesn’t want to be known as the ‘Fastest Rescue Team?’” Gill asked.
