Egypt is planning to issue its 5G licenses by the end of the year, sources recently revealed to Ashraq Business. Some sources estimate the licensing fees at least $500 million, according to Egypt Today.
In 2022, the Egyptian-based National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) allocated 5G TDD licenses with 30 MHz channels in the 2600 MHz band to Orange Egypt at a cost of $440 million. Before that, NTRA allocated 80 MHz of 5G TDD spectrum in the 2600 MHz band to Vodafone Egypt, Egypt Telecom and Etisalat Egypt at a cost of $1.1 billion.
Back in 2016, the NTRA granted 4G licenses to Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, Etisalat Misr and Telecom Egypt, according to Egypt Today.
“Orange was the last telecom to receive an additional spectrum of frequencies which included 4G and 5G capabilities in 2022, making it the last of the telecoms operating in Egypt to receive 5G-capable frequencies,” Egypt Today reported.
