UPDATE The FCC plans to vote on four items of interest to the wireless industry at its monthly meeting next Tuesday.

One concerns the accuracy of 911 location data when the call originates from a phone system serving a large place like a hotel, campus or office building. The Commission plans to vote on a Notice of Inquiry about the 911 capabilities of Multi-Line Telephone Systems and IP-based enterprise systems (referred to as Enterprise Communications Systems or ECS). In the NOI, the agency will ask questions about the capabilities of ECS to support direct 911 access, routing, and automatic location information.

The Commissioners will hear details of a report scrutinizing the state of competition in the mobile wireless industry. The FCC will also vote on proposed rule changes to allow auctions to assign certain toll-free numbers and revisions to reporting provider requirements governing hearing-aid compatibility for mobile handsets.
