The link between the cable and wireless industries has grown stronger in recent years and this trend is expected to continue. For instance, Comcast officially announced the upcoming launch of its mobile service Xfinity Mobile late last week, reports appsforpcdaily.com; the launch expands the company’s foray into wireless and will provide expanded services to the cable giant’s existing customer base.

Comcast is offering the service using Verizon’s nationwide 4G LTE network. However, the cable company has obtained spectrum of its own in the FCC auction, meaning it could build its own cell towers in the future (see story above). The company announced the upcoming launch of the service, but did not provide a specific start date. It’s speculated the service will begin in the next few weeks, according to appsforpcdaily.com.

Xfinity Mobile incentivizes cable customers to bundle their services, and provides reduced pricing and lower rates for cable customers. For example, unlimited talk, text and data is $65 per line, but with Comcast’s internet and cable bundles that price drops to $45.
