Major Sprint stakeholder Softbank and Honda plan a joint research project to develop connected car technologies with an eye towards 5G. Softbank will install experimental 5G base stations at Honda’s R&D proving ground in Japan for the tests that are slated to begin in April, 2018.

The companies plan to develop technology and onboard antennas to enable a stable handover of communications by base stations in a vehicle moving at high-speed. They will also focus on tech that can secure data sending/receiving performance in weak signal areas.
