FCC Chairman Ajit Pai has now seen what goes into tower work up close and personal. He climbed to the top of a 131-foot self-supporting tower near De Beque, Colorado today.
Tower technicians and management from Colorado-based EasTex Tower explained the kind of work they perform each day and supplied Pai with the appropriate fall protection equipment. SBA Communications owns the tower site, and management representatives were on-hand to speak with the Chairman as well. EasTex Tower technicians accompanied Pai as he scaled the structure.
Representatives from the National Association of Tower Erectors, EasTex Tower and SBA Communications organized the event. In addition to tower builds and maintenance, they spoke with the Chairman about the NATE STAR Initiative program that includes safety audits and program documentation requirements; those enable participants, like EasTex Tower, to identify and correct job site hazards.
