In a race against the clock, York County, PA officials hope to spend $5 million from its federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding on new broadband internet infrastructure. An RFP on the project is due today.
Silas Chamberlain from the York County Economic Alliance, who’s spearheading the project, said although the deadline of completion by December 15 is aggressive, he’s confident it can be completed on time. Details regarding the tight time frame are included in the RFP.
Chamberlain said the timeline “will be a big determinant in what contractors are willing to do the work and able to do the work.” Chamberlain added that prospective bidders would have until Wednesday, October 7, to submit any questions about the project.
The county must respond to the bidders by this Friday, October 9, and the bidders must then submit a final proposal by October 14, reported the Dispatch.
Once all the bids have been submitted, Chamberlain said, the commissioners will review the submissions and decide whether to move forward with the project, based on the overall cost. If the county advances, construction could begin as soon as October 26, with a completion date of December 15.
