This month marks SAC’s 25th anniversary. Throughout our history, we have helped keep the world connected through our solutions and innovations. We have continued to grow and evolve to meet our customers’ ever-changing needs. SAC stands for Site Acquisition; Architecture and Engineering; Construction and Commissioning. For a quarter of a century, SAC has provided quality network infrastructure for rapidly evolving communications technologies.
SAC opened for business on August 1, 1996, offering a lean and efficient business model. The founders secured a half million-dollar loan and signed their first customer, AT&T. For the first few years, SAC focused exclusively on the Midwest – Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana – blowing away the competition in terms of bringing in leases, completing zoning approvals, and pulling binder permits so that projects could be turned over to construction.
By the end of the decade, SAC had an eye on end-to-end services. The next step would be construction management. Soon, we were managing general contractors in a project management role. By 2004, the company was doing construction management full steam. A fork in the road presented two options: remain regional, or go national. We opted for the latter, and in 2006, purchased Alcoa Wireless. The Alcoa purchase brought SAC to the West Coast along with a prominent architecture and engineering firm, a move that allowed even more services to be brought in-house.
With the foundation laid – front end services, experts managing leasing, zoning, and permitting; construction services, management of the crews building each site; and architectural and engineering services – nationwide expansion was seamless.
SAC Wireless today is Nokia’s primary delivery gateway for all radio product deploy services, including small cell and mmWave. At the same time, we’re maintaining, strengthening, and expanding the nationwide LTE network to best serve the majority of current consumers. We will fully leverage our expertise in process workflows, delivery plans, supply chain, self-perform and vendor management capabilities in the busy years ahead. While today we deliver a long list of services, it all began with just four partners.
For twenty-five years, we have been leaders in the Tower Services industry, driving change and innovation. Our vision of leading the charge to a more connected world continues to guide us on our path forward. Our customers, our people and our values will remain at the heart of everything we do.
As technology and the telecommunications industry changes and evolves, we look forward to growing with it.
Happy Birthday SAC!
