Residents in Westfield and Carmel, Indiana, are concerned about AT&T’s plan to build a 120-foot tower on school property. The site is owned by Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and the tower would be constructed next to the school’s athletic field and a natural gas pumping station. On May 12, the Westfield Zoning Board of Appeals granted the company a variance that will allow them to maintain a reduced setback distance from the road and field, according to the Current in Carmel. Even though 20 residents opposed the variance, the plan will move forward. The structure will be disguised as a flag pole with a fence and trees around it. The Advisory Plan Commission will continue the discussion of this matter to determine whether the plans meets the applicable standards in place.
