Sprint’s lease for a tower at Reed High School in Washoe County, Nevada, is coming to an end. Over the past four years, the school has received about $108,000 from the structure, but are now asking for more if Sprint wants to renew the lease. The Reno Gazette-Journal reported that the Washoe County School Board is requesting $12,000 a year, which is a 43% increase in rent. Even with this increase, one board member doesn’t think it’s enough money. Sprint has operated the tower at the school since 2000, and previously paid $8,371 a year to the district. The new contract will span a decade, and include a 3% annual increase. The details of the new contract still need to be negotiated, but Sprint didn’t agree to pay $5,000 up front for legal and professional costs of reviewing its lease extension, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal. The school also hosts towers for Verizon and T-Mobile, earning the district about $420,000 in the past four years.
